As a result custom car makers converted small numbers of popular US vehicles into convertibles. I don't recall what the issue was, but I'm sure you could read up on it. For some reason auto makers suspended convertible production 1977-1979. I have a true barn find 1979 TBird Convertible for sale. Other than that it is ready to go to the new owner. It has been out of trhe DMV computer so long that I have to take it in to have it verified. I have started the paperwork into my name. Again I think that is a connection issue. I can not get the heat or A/C blower to work. The body has no rust but the paint is oxidized. The seats and carpet look good as does the dash. I am sure that it is due to a bad connection. The driver side window and power seat do not work. It has been stored since 2001 and has less than 82,000 genuine miles on it! Even with the low miles it needs some attention. I don't remember the exact numbers but there were not many built. I looked up the production numbers a while back. They were not cheap but solved the problem This TBird was built by Custom Coach Works out of SoCal. Americans love their convertibles so an LA based shop converted TBirds, El Dorados, Lincolns, Camaros etc. There was some safety issue they were dealing with. This is just speculation, but Ford's application - which was filed for automobiles only - might be about protecting what it sees as unwelcome encroachment on the name Model T, protection it wasn't able to enforce before when the stakes were only online and much smaller.I have a 1979 Ford Thunderbird Convertible that I have decided to let go. The Published for Opposition date for Tesla's applications is December 31, 2013, after which anyone who thinks they'd be harmed by Tesla being granted the trademark gets 30 days to register their issues. Tesla actually made two applications for Model E, one for automobiles and structural parts therefore, the other for "providing maintenance and repair services for automobiles," and there are plenty of theories about what the name could be applied to. In August 2013, Tesla applied for trademark registration for Model E, and at the time, Ford said it would review the application. In 2000 Ford sued an online start-up called Model E over the similarity of that name to Ford's industry-shaping Model T, but the judge dismissed the case citing lack of proper grounds. In early December, Ford filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for the name "Model E." Historically, Ford never produced a Model E, and while automakers are known to file for trademarks they never use, some have wondered if the application might be used for a concept car.īased on other recent events, though, it could be a legal move. Mum's the word on when the production F-150 will be revealed, but our best guess is that we'll see it at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show.įord files trademark application for 'Model E' Fri, A diesel option hasn't been confirmed, but we wouldn't be surprised to see one some time in the truck's lifecycle. On the powertrain front, the new F-150 will undoubtedly carry on with EcoBoost engines, and we'd bet on a normally aspirated V8 as well. But Ford engineers will need to be careful, though, as they need to keep a tight rein on costs while preserving class-competitive (if not class-leading) towing and payload capacity. Earlier reports have suggested that lightweight aluminum materials may be used throughout, offering a serious reduction in weight versus previous models. Perhaps the biggest unknown surrounding the new F-150 is what, exactly, its body will be made of. Much of the new truck's design is hidden under the bulky coveralls, but we expect a lot of its new lines to be inspired by the Atlas concept that debuted at the 2013 Detroit Auto Show. Standing as quite a contrast from the spy shots of the 2015 Ford Mustang we saw earlier today, our spies also sent along these pictures of the next-generation F-150 pickup out testing in its (heavily camouflaged) full prototype body.
